According to sources, Mikel Arteta omitted axed Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno for Saturday’s victory against Norwich, indicating that the German is more likely to be transferred next summer.
The 29-year-future old’s was already in doubt when the Gunners agreed to pay Sheffield United £30 million for Ramsdale, the joint-highest price ever paid for a British goalkeeper.
Ramsdale was supposed to be introduced gradually, but Arteta chose to start him ahead of Leno against Norwich, and he preserved the team’s first Premier League clean sheet of the season.

According to the Daily Mail, Arteta plans to keep Ramsdale in goal for Arsenal’s next match against Burnley, and Leno’s long-term career suddenly seems to be in jeopardy.
The north Londoners always intended for Ramsdale, who is 23 years old, to become the club’s number one goalkeeper by the conclusion of the season, but that process is moving at a far faster pace than anticipated.
Arsenal are now essentially setting the foundation to sell Leno next summer, when his contract expires, and expect to receive a slew of bids for the shot-stopper.

It’s conceivable that the scenario will alter if Ramsdale’s form deteriorates and Leno reclaims his starting spot, but for the time being, the club expects to need to acquire a new backup goalkeeper to play under Ramsdale from next summer.
There’s a slim possibility they’ll contemplate letting Leno go in January, but it’s not presently anticipated.
Ramsdale is looking forward to coming head-to-head with Leno, stating following his debut against Norwich: ‘I’m not sure what the manager is going to do.’

‘This [game against Norwich] might simply have been a tactical adjustment, so it’s up to me to push him to keep selecting me, which I have to do on a daily basis.
‘Bernd and I will be extremely competitive in a healthy manner, and hopefully I will be able to remain in the squad.’
‘You have to be prepared to play goalie.’ You never know when anything will happen. Every week, I’m prepared.
‘Now we must maintain our competitiveness on the training field, and I must strive to remain in the squad and assist them.’ There’s a lot to keep going with this season, and we’ll see where it leads us.’
