Experts warn of deadly 'Disease X' as worldwide epidemic

Disease X-may-cause-a-worldwide-epidemic

The goal of adding Disease X is not to scare people, but to ensure that the global health officials build the resilience and are prepared for all threads, not just the predictable ones.

It added that special populations such as refugees, internally displaced populations, and victims of disasters, constitute potential victims of the listed diseases.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has put scientists and health workers around the globe on alert for a new and potentially deadly pathogen - Disease X.

These diseases have killed and will continue to kill millions of people due to their resistance to many drugs and the lack of effective treatments available to counter them.

The WHO says it omitted several groups of diseases, such as hemorrhagic fevers and emergent non-polio enteroviruses from its priority list.

As to where disease X might come from, no one knows for sure.

"The R&D Blueprint explicitly seeks to enable cross-cutting R&D preparedness that is also relevant for an unknown "Disease X" as far as possible".

Jamie Carragher Suspended By Sky Sports After Spitting Incident
There was an exchange of words in which the girl was asking Carragher about the game and winding him up about United's victory. Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has been suspended from his job. "I hate that she was involved more than anything".

The most recent review took place in February, with experts agreeing the following diseases are the ones that most urgently require researchers' attention: Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever (CCHF); Ebola virus disease and Marburg virus disease; Lassa fever; Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS); Nipah and henipaviral diseases; Rift Valley fever (RVF); and Zika virus.

However, this year a ninth mystery pathogen has been added to the watch list for the first time.

"Disease X" is the code name for an unknown pathogen that could be created by biological mutation, such as previous deadly epidemics such as Spanish Flu or HIV, the organization said. "It may seem odd to add an "X", but it's about making sure that we flexibly prepare and plan diagnostic tests and systems that will allow us to create countermeasures as quickly as possible ".

World Health Organization committee scientific adviser John-Arne Rottingen believes the next major outbreak of disease will be something humanity has not seen before.

Experts in World Health Organization has identified "Disease X" as a global threat capable of killing millions in times of an outbreak.

The most probable source of the disease is zoonotic diseases present in wild and domesticated animals, and can be transmitted to humans.

Human-animal contacts are intensifying as Man moves. In fact, as far as viruses are concerned, that evolution is very much a natural process - one that we need to be aware of and prepare for. The diseases on the WHO list pose a public health risk because of "their epidemic potential" as well as the "insufficient" countermeasures, according to the WHO.
