Probe into Skripal poisoning follows Litvinenko script - Russia's embassy

Salisbury Spy Maltings Hasmat Team

Nearly 200 specialists from the RAF and Marines began removing contaminated materials to be sent for analysis at the nearby Porton Down defence laboratory, seven days after the attempted assassination of Sergei Skripal, the Russian double agent.

The pair - believed by authorities to have been deliberately targeted - were found slumped on a bench near a shopping centre on the afternoon of March 4.

Interior minister Amber Rudd told MPs that the "brazen and reckless" attack was "attempted murder in the most cruel and public way" but declined to single any perpetrator out.

Police officer Det Sgt Nick Bailey, 38, who was admitted to intensive care after the incident is said to be in a "stable and conscious" condition.

Police said 21 people had been seen for medical treatment since the incident.

"The public should not be alarmed and the public health advice remains the same", a spokesperson added.

Authorities say there is no risk to the general public from the attack. "People have been so kind and he has expressed that he will never forget that kindness".

The police later announced that the two had been poisoned with a nerve agent hard to produce outside a government laboratory, heightening suspicions that Russian Federation had played a role.

The nerve agent used in the attack was identified in scientific tests by Government experts earlier this week but it has yet to be named publicly. "At the moment, our priority is going to be the incident, which is why I'm here".

Slight Increase In Windsor's Unemployment Rate
Meanwhile, oil prices were up and Action Economics said market narratives suggest position trimming is at play. Full-time employment decreased by 10,500 jobs while part-time employment increased by 12,800 jobs.

The grave of Mr Skripal's wife Liudmila, who was buried in 2012, and the memorial stone of his son Alexander, who was cremated a year ago, were cordoned off at the London Road cemetery.

Members of the emergency services were filmed at the cemetery working in hazardous materials suits and gas masks. Entrances to the cemetery were closed off.

Western intelligence services consider Russian Federation as a leading suspect, based on previous attacks that used a similar substance and method, a Western intelligence official told CNN.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov dismissed Britain's warnings of retaliation were propaganda and not serious.

"If anyone's interested in our assistance with the investigation, whether it be on the poisoning of some subjects of the United Kingdom, or rumors on the interference in the affairs of the United States during the election campaign, or anything else".

The Times newspaper said British officials were talking to their U.S. and European counterparts about a co-ordinated retaliation, which could include "diplomatic, economic and military measures" if Moscow was behind the attack. It is expected that it could provide the government, and the poisoning was an assassination attempt.

In his comments to parliament, Johnson said the Salisbury chase had "echoes" of the plight of former Russian spy Alexander Litvinenko, who died a slow death after drinking tea laced with highly radioactive polonium-210 in 2006 in a hotel in London.

A British inquiry found that Russia was responsible for Litvinenko's killing, and that Russian President Vladimir Putin probably approved it.
