Pep Guardiola puts Manchester City on watch for Rivalry Weekend

City won their first piece of silverware under Guardiola last month when they claimed the Carabao Cup

Qualification was nearly a formality for the English club after its 4-0 win in Switzerland in the first leg and City coach Pep Guardiola fielded a virtual reserve team at Etihad Stadium.

But the budding star had little chance to shine in the first half for the home side, whose first goal came in the eighth minute when an unmarked Gabriel Jesus scored on a pass from Bernardo Silva.

In a game that was of no outcome, Pep Guardiola's contradictions were brought very much to the fore: Gabriel Jesus's early goal, cancelled out minutes later by Mohammed Elyounoussi proving to be little more than a consolation when Michael Lang - the scourge of Manchester - scored a victor deep into the second half.

"We forgot to attack, we forgot to play, we passed the ball for the sake of passing the ball", said Guardiola.

Pep Guardiola had the opportunity to rotate for this game after the comfortable manner in which City won the first leg, thrashing their Swiss opponents 4-0.

"I know everyone wants to anticipate the situations, when we will win the title".

"We are in the quarter-finals, that is the good news, and after we will see how we will arrive in the quarter-finals".

DeShone Kizer traded to Packers in Randall deal
After dealing for Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jarvis Landry , they then went for a new signal caller in Tyrod Taylor . The deal also includes the Packers and Browns flip-flopping their fourth- and -fifth-round picks, according to ESPN.

The former Barcelona coach, however, had less positive words for the rest of his team, labelling their second-half performance as "really, really poor" and said their possession play had been largely pointless.

City completed 978 passes; the most recorded by a side in a Champions League match since 2003-04 (when we have this data available from), three days after having the most in a Premier League game (902 v Chelsea). This gave space for 17-year-old Phil Foden to become the youngest player to be involved in the Champions League knockouts in the competition's history.

Ilkay Gundogan said Manchester City still have much to prove before they can be ranked alongside the best of Europe. In the second half, with Leroy (Sane), he was the only one who tried to be aggressive and tried to do something.

Pep Guardiola believes Manchester City's Champions League fortunes are dependent on how well his side performs in the Premier League.

"The action from Oleksandr Zinchenko in the first half [against Chelsea] on Victor Moses - it was "orange", could be yellow, could be red - and if it is red you are out of the Champions League".

They had trouble with the "defend well" instruction, though, and Mohamed Elyounoussi took full advantage of this when the ball landed at his feet in a good position, firing past Claudio Bravo. "If Firmino is doing well, I'm happy for him".
