Two dead in shooting in Central Michigan University

Central Michigan University shooting: 2 dead, suspect at large

A photograph of the suspect, James Eric Davis Jr. has been released.

At the time of his death, Davis Sr. was a part-time police officer in Bellwood, Illinois.

Police searched for Davis in every building at Central Michigan, then took the manhunt off-campus.

James Davis Sr. was a pillar of the community, which has 20,000 residents, and was beloved by friends and neighbors, the mayor said. He is from the Chicago area and listed in a campus directory as a sophomore. Campbell is a dormitory and is part of the Towers Complex off Broomfield Road.

The university is about 70 miles north of Lansing, Michigan's state capital. Students are still on lockdown but police say that campus is safe. Friday was the last day of classes before Spring Break.

James Davis is described as being 5 feet 10 inches tall, and weighing 135 lbs. Police declined to confirm news reports that the two victims shot at a residence hall were Davis' parents.

Additionally, the MAC said it will provide an update on the MAC Wrestling Championships - slated to be held Saturday and Sunday at CMU - by no later than 11 a.m. Saturday. He was last seen wearing mustard-colored jeans and a blue hoodie and is believed to be armed and risky, Lansing State Journal reported. After that, Mount Pleasant information officer Jeff Browne spotted him heading north from the dorm, running along the railroad tracks.

19, was identified as a suspect in what campus police believe was a domestic dispute.

Several local law enforcement agencies had been searching throughout the day for Davis Jr.

A message posted to the city's website Friday morning stated that the suspect was considered armed and unsafe.

CMU police announced that the shooter, James Eric Davis, was in the hospital Thursday night. If you see something suspicious in the area, you're urged to call 911 immediately.

"This was a bad incident, it was an isolated incident, but we had two people that were killed in a residence facility", Gov. Rick Snyder, R, said at a Friday press conference.

Last seen wearing mustard yellow jeans and a blue hoodie, the suspect was still at large and considered armed and risky, according to police.

A student, Tyler Whipple, was driving through campus when his route was blocked off by police cars at the scene of the killings.

The bodies of Davis Sr. and his wife were discovered in the residence hall, which forms part of the fourth floor. Visitors also weren't being allowed to enter.

A United States university student has allegedly shot and killed his parents in a fourth-floor dorm room, sources tell the Detroit Free Press. Investigators are searching for a 19-year-old suspect who is considered to be armed and unsafe.

Students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland have made powerful appeals for change to permissive U.S. gun laws in the wake of the shooting. There were no other injuries.

The university sent out a message via its emergency communication website on Friday morning announcing that two people were fatally shot at Campbell Hall on campus. Hours after a campus lockdown, police started a "slow, methodical removal" of staff and students who were ordered to take shelter in campus buildings, Lt. Larry Klaus said.

The city says the male suspect is considered armed and unsafe.

The reaction to the shooting was swift Friday morning, with multiple alerts going out on social media and mobile phones within minutes of the incident.
