WhatsApp introduces new feature of voice to video call switch button

If the user is making an audio call on WhatsApp, he/she can switch to video call by pressing the newly introduced camcorder icon. Prior to this, users had to cut the call to switch from a voice call to a video call.

The users are advised to keep in their minds that this feature is limited to Android beta testers or those who've signed-up for WhatsApp's Beta Program.

As part of the latest update, WhatsApp will start saving the voice recordings locally.

However, you might be anxious right now to say what if someone just switches to a video call during your voice call and you're in the wrong environment? There are no official words on when will this feature make it to the stable version of the app.

If the user does not want to switch to the video call, he can reject the request of the video call. If the person accepts the offer, the call will be switched automatically from voice call to video call or vice-versa. Now users using these smartphones will not be able to create new Whatsapp accounts and neither can re-verify current accounts. So switching between video and voice calls will take no time at all. With the introduction of new features on Instagram and WhatsApp, the company is directly competing with Snapchat and has managed to earn more users due to the sheer number of monthly active users.

Once you click on that icon, the app will send a request to the recipient without disconnecting the voice call.

That's where the company tests experimental and upcoming features.

However, in case the user decides to reject the video call request, a voice call will normally continue. In order to better focus on its development and usability, the team has stopped releasing updates on Windows phones, Blackberry and old Nokia phones as they are no longer supported by their original manufacturers.
