States That Have Legalized Marijuana: Jeff Sessions Can Go to Hell

U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions

Congressional supporters want to expand that protection to cover nonmedical sale and use of marijuana by adults, now legal in eight states, including California, along with Washington, D.C. They plan to add that proposal to a spending bill that is needed by January 19 to keep the government operating, and said Sessions may have unintentionally helped their cause.

Sessions is a longtime crusader against marijuana, a drug he has likened to heroin.

Although some state laws have legalized the use of the drug for medical and recreational reasons, marijuana remains illegal under us federal law.

Only Idaho, South Dakota, Nebraska and Kansas do not allow any access to marijuana, said Karmen Hanson, a cannabis policy analyst with the National Conference of State Legislatures.

Oregon Senator Ron Wyden accused Sessions of pursuing "his extremist anti-marijuana crusade", while Nevada Senator Catherine Cortez Masto said Sessions was "creating unnecessary confusion".

Federal laws banning the cultivation, distribution and possession of marijuana "reflect Congress' determination that marijuana is a risky drug and that marijuana activity is a serious crime", Sessions said in a memo to USA attorneys.

Jeff Sessions has long not represented Alabama to the nation in the manner many of us want to be seen.

That reversed the election campaign stance by President Donald Trump favoring state marijuana laws, and set up a potential clash with the six USA states that have already moved ahead to legalize pot sales. Twenty-two other states only allow for medical cannabis, including: Arizona, Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, and West Virginia.

Reps from several legalization-adjacent organizations, including the California Cannabis Industry Association and the City of Los Angeles Department of Cannabis Regulation, did not return requests for comment.

China tightens North Korea trade restrictions under United Nations sanctions
It said the KOTI docked at Yeosu six times and three times in Pyeongtaek between August and December to take on oil. US President Donald Trump has complained that China is allowing oil to go into the North.

The US Attorney for Colorado, Bob Troyer, made clear there will be no change in his stance locally, saying his office has "already" been applying the principles laid out by Sessions in its marijuana prosecution decisions.

And it did, as it has all too often since the man whose seat Jones now occupies-former U.S. Senator Jeff Sessions-became Donald Trump's pick for U.S. Attorney General a year ago.

U.S. Attorney Kurt Alme said prosecutors will focus on cases that pose the greatest public safety threat.

Now, some say Sessions's rollback enables law enforcement to racially profile people of color.

"Attorney General Jeff Sessions, his time has come", Chaffetz said on "The Story". She did not elaborate.

"I'm appalled but not surprised at Sessions's decision to repeal the Cole memo, which urged federal prosecutors not to enforce federal marijuana law in states that had legalized", Drug Policy Alliance executive director Maria McFarland Sánchez-Moreno tells Teen Vogue.

MedMen, Southern California's largest marijuana retailer, is now selling recreational marijuana for adult use at two locations-one in WeHo and and one in Santa Ana-with three more in the works, in Venice, DTLA, and near LAX. "The biggest growth phase was during the (George W.) Bush administration, when we were facing SWAT team raids, and prosecutions on a almost weekly basis in California". Then, they sell it across state lines for more money.

Today, one in five Americans resides in a jurisdiction where the adult use of cannabis is legal under state statute, and the majority of citizens reside someplace where the medical use of cannabis is legally authorized. But Arcview's leader, Troy Dayton, said the industry was resilient. "The likely impact of (Sessions' action) is that it will inspire advocates and businesses and state governments like California to provide more protection for legal cannabis businesses".

President Donald Trump's top law enforcement official announced the change Thursday.
