Parliament breaks into song as same-sex marriage bill passes

Parliament Speeches on Same-Sex Marriage Become Emotionally Charged in Final Week of Debates

More respect. Marriage equality has passed! The Senate had passed the same legislation last week.

The marriage equality bill won massive support in the House of Representatives where almost all members of the ruling Liberal-National Coalition joined by Labor and the Greens voting in favor of the bill.

Tracy Clark and her partner Justyna Greinart embrace as they gather with a crowd of people to watch a large television screen at Federation Square as it is announced that same-sex marriage will be legal in Australia with Parliament agreeing to change the Marriage Act and end the ban on gay and lesbian couples marrying on December 7, 2017 in Melbourne, Australia. "Australia has done it", Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull told the House.

Lawmakers approved the bill less than a month after the Australian Bureau of Statistics announced the majority of voters who took part in a non-binding plebiscite on whether gays and lesbians should be able to legally in the country said "yes".

Same-sex marriage campaigners converged outside parliament in the nation's capital Canberra to celebrate the historic occasion, which sees Australia join more than 20 other countries in recognising such unions.

House Shoots Down Dem Rep's Impeachment Resolution
Earlier in November, she told CNN that "it's not someplace that I think we should go", when asked about impeachment proceedings. Mueller complete his full investigation rather than engage in what would essentially be a public relations stunt", said Rep.

"Love has won, and it's time to pop the bubbly", Greens MP and same-sex marriage supporter Adam Bandt said.

The Jensens first said they'd get divorced if same-sex couples could get married back in 2015. Queues of people lined up to watch the debate from the public gallery, with some dancing and cheering.

News.com.au reports that Christian couple Nick and Sarah Jensen have been hedging on their pledge to divorce in the wake of same-sex marriage becoming legal in Australia. They were warned multiple times that parliamentary rules prohibit them from making noise and even applauding. They included prominent same-sex marriage advocates, including former Olympic swimmer Ian Thorpe and local comedian Magda Szubanski.

One highly anticipated wedding will be the Liberal Party's Tim Wilson, who proposed to his partner Ryan Bolger while speaking on gay marriage on the floor of the House earlier this week.
