Saudi coalition bombs Houthi defence ministry in Yemen

Hunger Crisis in Yemen 2017

Yemeni men and security forces in Aden, Yemen, November 5, 2017.

In retaliation to Saudi-led coalition's announcement to shut down all Yemen ground, air and sea ports, the Houthi rebels said they could be deploying this newly launched anti-ship missile "very soon" targeting Saudi ships near the strategic port city of Hudaydah.

Warplanes continued to circle in the skies above Sanaa after the strikes, witnesses said.

A number of houses were also reportedly damaged in the strike. There was no word of any casualties.

Two air strikes targeted the ministry late on Friday and plumes of smoke could be seen billowing from the building, the rebel media network Al Masirah quoted witnesses as saying.

According to defenseworld.net, the announcement comes after Saudi air defense forces reported that they had intercepted a ballistic missile in midair that was sacked from Yemen over northern Riyadh.

Mohammad Ali al-Houthi said that if Saudi Arabia target Hodeidah port and its coastal areas, "we will make unprecedented steps" against the country, the Arabic-language Al Mayadeen TV network reported. "It will be the largest starvation the world has seen for many decades, with millions of victims".

More than 2,000 Yemenis have died in a cholera outbreak now affecting almost one million people.

Saudi Arabia and its allies intervened in neighbouring Yemen in March 2015, with the stated aim of rolling back Huthi rebel gains and restoring the government of President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi to power.

Yemen's defenseless people have been under massive attacks by the coalition for more than two and half years but Riyadh has reached none of its objectives in Yemen so far.
