Korean lawmaker says N. Korea hacked war plans

US Air Force B-1 bombers carried out mock missile launches off both coasts of South Korea Tuesday night in the latest show of force against North Korea, South Korean military officials said.

Tensions over North Korea's weapons programme have soared in recent months, with Pyongyang launching a flurry of missiles and conducting its sixth and most powerful nuclear test last month.

Officials feared the rogue nation would test another missile or nuclear bomb on Monday or Tuesday as North Korean citizens celebrated the 11th anniversary of the country's first nuclear test and the foundation of the ruling Worker's Party of Korea.

Pyongyang conducted its fifth nuclear test on the anniversary of the founding day of North Korea previous year.

"It is the steadfast will of all the service personnel and people of the DPRK (North Korea) to shower fire on the US", Ri said.

Hi comments came as North Korea's foreign minister said the United States president had "lit the wick of war" with North Korea and his country would be made to pay with "a hail of fire". "Sorry, but only one thing will work!", Trump said, hinting at taking military action against the regime.

The regime allegedly breached South Korean defense systems late a year ago and stole classified military documents, including allied war plans for a renewed military conflict on the Korean Peninsula and South Korean wartime defense plans.

The move came as North Korea hinted last week that it resumed the operation of the Kaesong Industrial Complex without consent from South Korean firms, which had to leave their properties behind there due to the park's closure in 2016.

South Korean and USA government officials have been raising their guard against more North Korean provocations with the approach of the 72nd anniversary of the founding of North Korea's ruling party, which fell on Tuesday.

"The briefing and discussion focused on a range of options to respond to any form of North Korean aggression or, if necessary, to prevent North Korea from threatening the United States and its allies with nuclear weapons", the White House said.

Ri's comments are likely to continue to fuel a mounting war of words between Trump and Kim.

Some of the hacked data addressed how to identify movements of members of the North Korean leadership, how to seal off their hiding locations, attack from the air before eliminating them, the lawmaker had said. It is also unclear as to whether the hackers' activities point to a specific and/or known North Korean hacker group's involvement.

"There is an urgent need for the military to change and update parts that were stolen by North Korea", Lee said.

Seoul says North Korea has repeatedly staged cyberattacks on South Korean business and government websites.

"Our prime minister has made very clear our support for the USA (policy), but more importantly, our support is for regional stability and security", Payne said.
