Equifax says it's looking into another possible hack

Equifax has taken down a customer service web page after reports that it was serving up bogus Adobe Flash installation dialogs laden with malware, Reuters reports.

Equifax's stock plunged at the news of the latest breach, a Wall Street Journal reporter noted on Twitter. What he found instead was yet another security issue for the credit agency.

The company, which gathers data on consumers for credit inquiries, has blamed a combination of human and technical error for the massive breach - not the largest on record but potentially the most damaging because of the sensitive financial information on consumers it holds in its databases.

The firm said it took down the link for credit report assistance temporarily "out of an abundance of caution".

October 12, 2017: Equifax confirms it was hacked again, this time with a fake Flash installer application.

The news comes as Equifax Inc. continues to deal with the aftermath of a cyber breach earlier this year which allowed the personal information of 145.5 million Americans, and 8,000 Canadians, to be accessed or stolen.

North Korea hackers steal South Korea war plans
Commenting on the news is Chris Doman, security researcher at AlienVault, who is investigating hacking groups in North Korea. Joined by South Korean F-15K fighters, the B-1Bs simulated air to ground missile firing over the East Sea.

"We are aware of the situation identified on the equifax.com website", an Equifax spokesman said in a statement.

After the first breach was disclosed in September, several actions were taken.

Still, while the company claims that its own servers weren't hacked, it's unclear if any visitors were nevertheless compromised because of code that it appeared on its site.

Richard Smith, the company's former chief executive stepped down.

The cyberattack occurred through a vulnerability in an open-source application framework it uses called Apache Struts.
