Teacher assaulted student after not standing during pledge of Allegiance

East Middle School

A MI teacher has been placed on leave after she allegedly assaulted a student who refused to stand during the Pledge of Allegiance.

It was Stone Chaney's first week at East Middle School in Farmington Hills when the September 7 incident occurred, but now his family says he might not be coming back because his rights were violated.

A sixth grade student claimed he was dragged from his desk by his teacher for sitting down during the pledge of allegiance during his first week of school. Stone, a sixth-grader, said he doesn't want to go back to East.

The next day, Chaney said he was verbally reprimanded by another teacher for doing the same thing. "I told the lady that I don't stand for the pledge and she just kind of glared at me", said Stone, 11. I didn't know what was going on, ' Stone said, adding 'then I was irritated because that's not supposed to happen'.

Brian Chaney, Stone's father, said he and his son are being vocal about the incident because they don't want it to die down.

The superintendent of Farmington Public Schools released a statement to WDIV saying the incident is under investigation and respected Stone's decision. I told her that I don't pledge to a flag. "I don't make him sit".

Sandusky's son pleads guilty to child sex abuse allegations
After that incident came to light, a girl came forward and told authorities Jeffrey had asked her for oral sex in 2013. The elder Sandusky was convicted in 2012 of 45 counts of child sexual abuseand sentenced to 30 to 60 years in prison.

Since the incident, Chaney says he no longer feels safe attending the middle school.

Chaney and his wife brought their concerns to the school board, but told reporters they didn't think their concerns were being taken seriously.

The ACLU of MI weighed in on the matter via Twitter, calling "any requirement for a student to stand for the pledge of allegiance... blatantly unconstitutional".

A Michigan-based teacher has been placed on leave and is under investigation by the school district after he allegedly accosted a young boy in his class for not standing for the Pledge of Allegiance. Brian Chaney praised his son's ability to walk to his "own beat".

What's even more troubling about this situation is that as a teacher's consultant, the person who dragged this child is tasked with training other teachers on how to manage their classrooms. They said that they will likely pull Stone out of the district entirely.
