Donald Trump issues new warning to North Korea

Hours later, President Donald Trump said the same thing during a speech at Joint Base Andrews, saying USA military options are "both overwhelming and effective", and called out North Korea's "utter contempt for its neighbors and the global community".

Speaking to military personnel at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland on Friday en route to his New Jersey golf club, Mr Trump said that North Korea had "once again shown its utter contempt for its neighbours and the entire world community".

North Korea, according to McMaster, is "one of the world's most urgent and risky security problems".

Ahead of his remarks, both national security adviser H.R. McMaster and US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley stressed during a White House briefing on the UN General Assembly that Trump did have military options to stop North Korea, CNN reported.

"I have no problem kicking it to General Mattis", Haley said at a White House press conference, explaining that despite diplomatic efforts and strong United Nations sanctions, the North Koreans "continue to be provocative".

The Treasury has said it is looking into requests for use of government aircraft after the trip drew criticism. A commenter snarked at her for the trip.

It's the second such launch in the past few weeks after North Korea fired a missile over northern Japan in late August.

In New York, the U.N. Security Council unanimously condemned the launch and called it a "highly provocative" act. "They're better looking than Tom Cruise and we know they can fight better and we know they can fly better", he said, referring to Cruise's 1986 film "Top Gun".

The last set of sanctions included restrictions on North Korea's oil imports and a ban on its textile exports. She said, however, that options for dealing with the regime of Kim Jong Un are not limited to diplomacy.

Having said that, I have no problem kicking it to Gen. Mattis because I think he has plenty of options.

The increasing levels of sanctions are expected to cut off 90 percent of North Korea's trade.
