White Cop Shoots Himself, Blames A Black Man Instead

St. Kate's security officer admits to shooting self, lying to police

The Star Tribune reports that St. Paul police were immediately skeptical of 25-year-old Brent P. Ahlers' story that he had been shot by a black gunman in a navy blue sweatshirt with a short Afro, so they did not publicly share the description of the supposed shooter.

Ahlers was guarding the St. Catherine University campus when the gun he was carrying discharged, wounding him in his shoulder Tuesday night.

A stupid mistake and a racist lie by a campus security guard at St. Catherine University in St. Paul, Minnesota, turned into a full blown manhunt on Tuesday night for a black perpetrator who simply didn't exist.

While they still needed to take a report of a shooting seriously, St. Paul police were so skeptical of the white 25-year-old's initial claim about an assailant who was armed and risky with a "short Afro" that they didn't even release a description of the made-up minority. Ahlers has been placed on a paid leave of absence Wednesday, a statement from the university said.

Assembly passes budget, Senate not on board
Stephen Nass, R-Whitewater, said he wants to see a January 1 effective date to repeal the state's prevailing wage requirement. Vos said if Republican senators pass an amended budget and return it to the Assembly, the chamber will reject it.

After the search failed to find any suspect, Mr Ahlers admitted to police he had accidentally shot himself, said officials.

The president of the St. Paul NAACP told the Star Tribune, "that's what black people live with". That's the sad thing about it.

University President Becky Roloff said: "While we are distressed and saddened that this incident occurred, we are relieved that no other members of the community were injured". He told investigators during questioning on Wednesday that he accidentally shot himself with his handgun and lied about it because he feared losing his job, according to St. Paul police.

Police conducted a building-by-building search and advised campus residents to stay indoors as they searched for the shooter. Police said misdemeanor charges of falsely reporting a crime are expected to be filed. According to NBC affiliate Kare11, guards at St. Catherine University are unarmed.
