Leon County solid waste pick up resumes today

In Leon County, solid waste services and rural waste service centers resume today for regular trash and recycling pickup.

All service days during the week of September 11 will be pushed back by one day.

But Rodriguez wants to assure customers that the trash and recyclables will be collected by the county's trash hauler, Waste Management Inc.

Residents who typically have garbage collection services on Wednesday, September 13 and Thursday, September 14 will have their garbage collected on Thursday, September 14. "We encourage all residents in these communities to be mindful of any storm-related street or low-wire issues, as well as the increased traffic attributed to evacuees into the panhandle area, and to proceed with caution and patience", said Ronnie Bell, public sector services representative.

St. Johns County initialized the Hurricane Irma debris collection program Tuesday, Sept. 12. All fees are waived until September 23.

In Manatee County, debris contractors will take time this week to assess how much debris needs to be picked up and what resources are needed.

Only debris generated by the storm event on maintained residential property is eligible for collection. Please call them to schedule special pickup. Don't put them at the curb.

Household garbage must be placed in a 40-gallon can or heavy mil plastic bag each weighing no more than 50 pounds.

Household garbage (trash, cups, food scraps, etc.) should be disposed of normally.

Standard yard debris collection schedules will resume Monday, September 18.

Yard waste collection will be suspended until vegetative storm debris has been collected.

Recycling collection operations are suspended for the week. Sandbags should not be included with yard waste and other storm debris.
