Alliant Energy crews head to Florida to help restore power

Utility trucks lined up in Greenville

Due to the possibility of heavy winds and rainfall that may hit the area following Hurricane Irma's wrath on Florida and Georgia, Duke Energy is sending almost 500 employees to Western North Carolina and the Upstate area of SC to restore potential power outages.

On Tuesday morning, almost 170,000 residents remained without power due to high winds and rain generated from Hurricane Irma.

"We'll work to safely restore power as quickly as possible - and won't stop until every customer's lights are back on", Tim Tripp, Duke Energy's director of storm response for the Carolinas said.

About 11,000 customers in Greenville County were still without power Wednesday morning.

Abbasi Says Pakistan Open To Joint Border Patrols
Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has said Pakistan has not received any USA list on terrorist sanctuaries. He denied Pakistan was harbouring militants, insisting it was "fighting agents of chaos".

Duke Energy and its contractor crews are gathering at a rest area along southbound Interstate 71/75 in Florence. That number was down from close to 100,000 in the early morning hours on Tuesday. "This is going to be a multi-day event for some folks, but we're going to see those numbers come down pretty dramatically throughout the course of the day today".

They will join more than 18,000 utility crews from across 30 states and Canada working to restore power to more than 6 million people.

Crews will be lining up to leave about 9:30 a.m.
