Athletics - World Athletics Championships - women's 100 metres hurdles final - London Stadium, London, Britain - August 12, 2017 - Sally Pearson of Australia celebrates after winning the gold medal.

"I don't know if it was surprise or what, but the emotion just escaped my body because I was so excited and so happy to have achieved what I have worked so hard for", Pearson said. "I'm so exhausted but I'm sure it will sink in soon", she said.

American veteran Dawn Harper Nelson was second, .04 seconds behind, and Pamela Dutiewicz of Germany took bronze in 12.72.

The 30-year-old's sublime run contrasted sharply with America's world record holder Kendra Harrison who squeaked into the final as the slowest of the two fastest losers who qualify.

AS she completed one of the most remarkable comebacks in Australian sport, new world champion Sally Pearson summed up her emotions with one word - proud.

Harrison faded to finish fourth.

"(Silver in) 2008 was a surprise, in a way that was just pure excitement", Pearson said.

"I'm still young, this was my first world final, people forget that because I'm the world record holder", said the 24-year-old.

This season also is the first in which teams are allowed one sponsored advertisement on their jerseys. Nike will use different materials than Adidas, and there were small tweaks made to several uniforms.

Pearson missed the Rio Olympics because of a hamstring injury, and also missed the 2015 world titles after breaking her wrist from a fall on the track.

"Silver tastes like gold tonight".

It was as the athletics program began in Brazil past year that Pearson made a decision to coach herself which proved to be a masterstroke. "I could see Sally had won and I thought "it's me and Sally again".

"When I knew I felt that I knew it was in me to do it".

The last time Pearson raced at a championships was when she won gold at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

Pearson split acrimoniously from her longtime coach Sharon Hannan after finishing second behind Brianna Rollins at the 2013 world titles.

The race was over as a contest as Pearson hurdled impeccably to hit the line in 12.53sec a broad grin spreading across her face and then clenched her fists in celebration.
