Google CEO Pichai Cancels Gender Dispute Meeting

Google's country manager for Nigeria Juliet Ehimuan speaks on stageduring a conference tagged'Google for Nigeria in Lagos

Memegen, an internal forum that uses images overlaid with amusing captions, was filled with irreverent posts that openly mocked how an email discussing the memo from Sundar Pichai, Google's chief executive, had leaked to the media so quickly.

Dory is a system used internally for Google employees to submit and vote on questions to be asked at town hall meetings. Some of the Google employees also identified as gay or supportive of diversity efforts. Employees can search documents for information about different divisions within the company on its internal network.

"An engineer fired for simply expressing an opinion that ran counter to Google's politically-charged atmosphere of an "Ideological Echo Chamber" as (Damore) put it". Google took this is as a direct insult and fired the author.

"Googlers are writing in, concerned about their safety and anxious they may be "outed" publicly for asking a question in the Town Hall", Pichai told employees, explaining his decision to cancel the all-hands meeting.

"If Google continues to ignore the very real issues raised by its diversity policies and corporate culture, it will be walking blind into the future-unable to meet the needs of its remarkable employees and sure to disappoint its billions of users", Damore wrote.

The op-ed comes a day after Google CEO Sundar Pichai was supposed to hash it all out in an all-hands meeting with the company's more than 60,000 employees.

After Damore posted that message in his blog, Google has tried to make sure the world understands the company does not share the same line of thought as its ex-employee. "It all makes sense now".

Damore has emerged as a hero of conservative media. Damore's firing has sparked a furious debate both within and outside Google, with the alt-right reportedly outraged and even calling for a boycott of Google.

Damore's Twitter account has nearly 60,000 followers despite starting days ago.

Damore claimed in a complaint filed on Monday to the National Labor Relations Board that he had been subject to "coercive statements" at Google.

The female employees of the tech giant contend that they have earned less than men at Google despite equal qualifications and comparable positions, the report quoted James Finberg, the civil rights attorney working on the possible legal action on behalf of the employees, as saying. Hundreds of millions of people rely on Google and its products, if not a billion or more, all of which have to do with communications and social interaction.

Google declined to comment on the planned protest.

In an essay published in The Wall Street Journal on Friday, Mr. Damore said "there was no outcry or charge of misogyny" when he shared the memo initially. It signifies their belief that liberals stifle free speech by humiliating right-wing voices.
