So Yeon Ryu becomes No. 1 in women's golf

At the top So Yeon Ryu, the world's third ranked player, captured her fifth career win on the LPGA.

Even Ryu's victory at the ANA Inspiration in April was, by many, chalked up to luck rather than skill.

Leading Indian golfer Aditi Ashok secured a career-best tied 25th finish in LPGA's Walmart NW Arkansas Championship.

Ariya Jutanugarn's reign as the women's world number one is over after less than two weeks.

Ryu's performance on Saturday bested the previous course record of 62, set by Angela Park and Jane Park in 2008 and matched past year by Lydia Ko and Ayako Uehara.

"I played really well the beginning of this year, then I didn't really play well at the last championship, kind of lost confidence a little bit", Ryu said.

"Dreams come true. I always dreamt about it".

She went into Sunday with a five-shot lead at the Pinnacle Country Club course, but said she did not feel confident of a victory until she made the putt on the 17th hole. This is going to be my first week as the No. 1 player in the world.

Local hero Lin Wen-tang held a one-shot lead after nine but an errant tee shot on 14 saw his title hopes dashed as he stumbled with a double-bogey.

"That's finally made my dream".

Moriya's compatriot Pornanong Phatlum (69) was among a group of 10 players, including first-round leader Park Sung-Hyun (73), tying for 10th on six-under 136, one stroke ahead of defending champion Lydia Ko (67).

Sunday's win earned Ryu US$300,000 and put her back on top of the money list with $1.21 million this season (US$1=W1,137).

The 26-year-old Ryu, who took command of the tournament with a course and tournament record 61 in Saturday's second round, became the second multiple victor on the LPGA Tour this season while picking up her fifth career victory.
