NJ college: Professor fired for racially insensitive remarks

Tucker Carlson appears on

A New Jersey adjunct professor was sacked after defending a Black Lives Matter event while on Fox News' Tucker Carlson Tonight.

He also noted that although Durden did not mention her affiliation with the school during her television appearance or claim to be representing its views, "her employment with us and potential impact on students required our immediate review into what seemed to have become a very contentious and divisive issue". She addressed the school board in a public meeting on June 20 and was sacked shortly thereafter, according to NJ.com. "You white people are angry because you couldn't use your white privilege card' to attend the event".

The Newark resident said she thought living in a "black and brown city" and working for a "black and brown college" would be a "safe space" for her to share her viewpoints.

"Boo hoo hoo. You white people are angry because you couldn't use your white privilege card", she told Carlson.

The controversial interview aired on June 6, 2017.

Lisa Durden, an adjunct professor of communications and pop culture at Essex College, lost her job because of "racially insensitive remarks", according to the school's president. The school on Friday said "racism can not be fought with more racism".

That didn't stop him from winning the American Family Insurance Championship by two shots over Scott Verplank . Tournament host Steve Stricker finished three shots behind Couples and tied for third.

Stay on topic - This helps keep the thread focused on the discussion at hand. Carlson had introduced her as a "political commentator and Black Lives Matter supporter". The announcement comes just two weeks after Durden appeared on Fox and just days after it was reported that she had been suspended indefinitely from her teaching position. Instead, she said, "I was sacked".

'When the administration receives an outpouring of concern regarding our student body, it is our responsibility to investigate those concerns, ' he said. "The character of this institution mandates that we embrace diversity, inclusion, and unity". Farber said they were considering whether to take legal action in the matter.

"In consideration of the college's mission, and the impact that this matter has had on the college's fulfillment of its mission, we can not maintain an employment relationship with the adjunct", Munroe stated.

In the wake of her axing, Durden told NJ.com on Friday that students and fellow staffers had backed her up - and likened her predicament to that of a rape survivor blamed for the assault.

Durden said the college "publicly lynched" her. "I thought when I came home from war, I would be safe".

Durden's lawyer, Leslie Farber, said that the firing violated the Durden's right to free speech and that the pair is considering a possible lawsuit against the college.
