J&K policemen asked to avoid Eid prayers in public places

Pandith was stripped and lynched by a mob outside the historic JamiaMasjid in Srinagar's Nowhatta area, triggering outrage across Kashmir and drawing all-round condemnation.

Sources said that two arrested out of the five are injured youths who were hit by bullets when slain police officer opened fire.

Police has arrested three more persons in connection to the case of lynching of DySP Mohammad Ayoub Pandith on Saturday.

Director General of Police Shesh Paul Vaid told Rising Kashmir that people involved in the incident would be taken to task and booked under the law.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police have asked its personnel to avoid Id prayers in public places after its officer Mohammed Ayub Pandith, was killed by a mob outside Srinagar's Jama Masjid last week.

He said such acts were part of attempts to demoralise police "but these attacks have not affected the force".

"It is the resolve of Jammu and Kashmir Police that we are not going to spare these rascals", he said, adding that investigation into the case was underway and everything would be clear once the report comes.

President Donald Trump's administration, which had previously put Iran " on notice " for its ballistic missile tests, will respond .

Sajad Ahmad Shah, the additional Superintendent of Police (Traffic City), Srinagar, will look after the duties of the SP (North Srinagar), the order read.

"Let the investigation be completed".

Hurriyat (M) Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has called the lynching as unislamic.

'We are expecting the violence to rise in this fortnight, ' the sources said. Nowhatta, where the lynching took place, falls under the jurisdiction of the SP, North Srinagar.

Calling it a shameful incident, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said the police "are showing maximum restraint because they think they are dealing with their own people, but for how long this will continue".

An angry mob beat a police officer to death outside a mosque in Indian-administered Kashmir, police said Friday, as tensions ran high in the volatile Himalayan region.

Sources said there were other personnel of security wing of police and armed police deployed inside the mosque compound, but they didn't react in time to provide backup security cover to Pandith.
