Iran seeks stronger ties with Qatar

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on Sunday said Qatar will review requests put forward by the several countries that have cut diplomatic ties with the Gulf nation.

The list calls on Qatar to close its satellite news network, Al Jazeera; close a Turkish military base; pay reparations for alleged damages; and to cut its ties with Hamas, the Muslim Brotherhood and other Islamist organizations.

The U.S. says some of the demands by four Arab countries as conditions to lift the sanctions over Qatar would be hard for Doha to meet.

Tillerson is also calling for a "lowering of rhetoric" to "help ease the tension".

"Tehran stands with the Qatari nation and government".

"To ask Turkey to pull out its troops from Qatar is firstly disrespectful behaviour towards us", he said in Istanbul, according to Reuters.

"The strengthening of the Turkish base would be a positive step in terms of the Gulf's security", he said. The statement came after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan reportedly said he had offered to build a military base in the Muslim kingdom shortly after work began on Turkey's facility in Qatar.

US Supreme Court set to rule on religious rights
Conversely, those with a "close familial relationship" in the United States are not affected. Trump has called his second executive order "watered down", and "politically correct." .

Rouhani further described the blockade against Qatar unacceptable saying "Iran's air, ground and sea will be always open to the brother and neighbor country of Qatar".

Qatar hosts the largest concentration of USA military personnel, 11,000 people, in the Middle East. Trump visited Saudi Arabia last month on his first overseas trip and announced a $110 billion deal to sell arms to the country. The conflict between the Arab countries and Qatar should be settled by diplomatic means on the basis of balance of interests, a high-ranking source at the Russian Foreign Ministry told TASS on Saturday.

"The illegal siege has nothing to do with combating terrorism, (but) it is about limiting Qatar's sovereignty, and outsourcing our foreign policy", he said.

"One day it's Iran, today it's Qatar", he said.

Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt, and the UAE severed ties with Qatar on June 5, officially accusing Doha of supporting "terrorism" and destabilizing the region.

Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the UAE and Egypt want Doha to comply with the demands in return for an end to the three-week-old diplomatic and trade blockade of Qatar.

Tillerson also urged all sides to "lower" their rhetoric to ease tensions, and said that the USA would stay in "close contact" with all parties and support Kuwait in its mediation efforts.
