Danny Ainge said Josh Jackson 'didn't want to play for the Celtics'

As of late Thursday night, talks between Boston and IN for a trade sending superstar Paul George to the Celtics-and potentially Tatum to the Pacers-had cooled.

The Celtics bypassed the talented Kansas forward for Duke's Jayson Tatum with the No. 3 pick, and Jackson went one pick later to the Suns.

Tatum averaged 16.8 points and 7.3 rebounds for the Blue Devils in 2016-17, ranking second on the team and among ACC freshmen in both categories.

Tatum, most likely tired and jet-lagged through a non-stop draft night, still smiled his way through the press conference and said all of the right things.

In joining a Boston Celtics team that went all the way to the Eastern Conference Finals, Tatum's dedication to the game is a true asset, even from a rookie.

"It's great", he said. "One was just because of ignorance because I didn't really know how to fix that situation that I was in when I got into that fender bender and then the other one was just bad judgment".

Prior to his college days, Tatum was regarded as one of the top high school players in the nation.

"He's kind of an isolation scorer that's got great length".

As part of the deal with Philadelphia, Boston will also receive a first-round draft pick in either 2018 or 2019 - giving it even more bargaining chips to bolster its roster during free agency.

Otto Warmbier, student detained in North Korea, is mourned at hometown funeral
The United States, South Korea and others often accuse North Korea of using foreign detainees to wrest diplomatic concessions. Warmbier was buried yesterday in OH , less than a week after he was sent back home in a mysterious coma.

"I talked about that with coach [Brad] Stevens and he said guys at my size and my position and are able to hit open shots and defend the one through the four, it's hard not to play those guys so that's how he looks at using me if they were to draft me", Tatum said.

"Agents and players have all sorts of motivations to get to certain places, as we've seen in the past. That's a good thing".

Instead, Danny Ainge kept the pick and drafted Jayson Tatum out of Duke University. President of basketball operations Danny Ainge, head coach Brad Stevens, managing partner, governor and CEO Wyc Grousbeck, and managing partner and alternate governor Steve Pagliuca all gloated over the Duke product as they sat on either side of him at a podium inside the Celtics' training facility. Maybe, but this isn't the first time a player has told a team he didn't want to play for them without actually saying it. I was all for it.

The Philadelphia 76ers have selected guard Markelle Fultz with the No. 1 pick in the National Basketball Association draft.

"Yes, we would have picked him with the first pick", Ainge said according to CSN New England.

"I love competition, and I love proving people wrong", Jackson said.

While the 19-year-old forward will take some time to develop in the NBA, Stevens had nothing but praise for his newest player.

He turned out to be correct. "Playmaking is an especially important part of the National Basketball Association game now, that having guys like Dennis Smith Jr. that can create simply on their own, and on pick and rolls, pick and rolls with Dirk, is a great blessing for us to have". "The two guys that went ahead of me, they're great players, but I'm glad at how it worked out, so I'm happy", Tatum said of Fultz and Lonzo Ball.

The 76ers had the No. 1 pick for the second straight year after trading with the Boston Celtics on Monday. He shot 42 percent from behind the 3-point line and about 53 percent from field-goal range.
