Apple CEO Tim Cook talked to Trump about immigration

The council also seeks to boost the security of USA government IT systems and wants to learn from private-sector practices. A Facebook spokesperson told Axios that the social media company did receive an invite but declined due to "prior scheduling conflicts".

"Together we will unleash the creativity of the private sector to provide citizen services in a way that has never happened before", Kushner said.

According to Recode, in a meeting with the White House's American Technology Council, Trump conceded that federal agencies desperately needed to catch up with the private sector when it comes to technology.

And it's a good thing, as Kushner who is helping to spearhead the White House Office of American Innovation pointed out the severely outdated technology the public sector still uses including floppy discs, and data systems that have been in use for over 50 years. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos - who has been a vocal critic of Trump in the past - called on the US government to take advantage of commercial technology, much like those provided by his own company and others sat at the table.

The meeting is the second between Trump and representatives of the Silicon Valley who have been openly sceptical of the President's policies, especially regarding climate change and immigration.

Its objective is to help modernize the federal government's technology. We're going to change that with the help of great American businesses like the people assembled.

He later joked: "We have approximately $3.5 trillion of market value in this room - but that's nearly the exact number that we've created since my election".

When the Trump administration pulled out of the Paris climate accord, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg blamed Trump for the decision in a post on Facebook, the withdrawal also caused Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, to drop out of the government's business advisory council.

The meeting was also notable for who didn't attend.

More meetings are scheduled during the White House's "tech week", including one that will cover drones this Thursday and the announcement of "additional tech reforms at the Department of Veterans Affairs on Friday". "But I would be there, I would show up and I would talk about what I care about".

However, the White House still managed to gather CEOs from Apple, Amazon, Microsoft, Palantir, IBM, Intel, and Oracle, among others.

June 20, 20172/ Cook said tech employees are nervous and while they don't think the administration's intent is to make them feel targeted, they need.
