President Trump Heads to Iowa Following GOP Congressional Wins

As President Donald Trump celebrated Republican victories in two special congressional elections on Wednesday, one man who advised presidents from both parties warned the results "should be a wake-up call for Democrats" that Trump could be on his way to re-election in 2020.

The president then slammed Democrats for the money poured into the Georgia election, which became the most expensive House race in history. Ossoff, whose campaign had been infused with $24 million from the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and $8 million from other contributors, had been the projected front-runner by pollsters.

Thompson lost to Republican Ron Estes, 52.5 percent to 45.7 percent.

There have been five special elections for congressional seats since the 2016 presidential election.

Georgia's 6th Congressional District was the fourth district that the Democrats failed to turn blue, losing in Kansas, Montana and, on Tuesday, South Carolina.

At one for five in this year's special congressional elections - the one being a Southern California district where the GOP is moribund - the Democratic batting average is languishing around the Mendoza Line.

Handel thanked national and state Republicans for backing her campaign before making a direct appeal to Ossoff's supporters.

Smith's family filed a civil lawsuit against Heaggan-Brown and the city, family attorney David Owens announced after the verdict. Chisholm has said that Heaggan-Brown was justified when he fired the first shot, but argues the second shot was unnecessary.

"Well, the Special Elections are over and those that want to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN are 5 and O!"

The losses left many Democrats looking for a new way forward to mount an opposition to President Trump.

On June 21, Trump took to Twitter again to offer unsolicited advice to Democrats, suggesting that they cooperate with his administration's agenda.

"Democrats would do much better as a party if they got together with Republicans on Healthcare, Tax Cuts, Security", Trump said on Wednesday morning in a tweet after the election.

Rep. Seth Moulton (D-Mass.) is calling on his fellow Democrats to look to the future and stop dwelling on past losses. "Media headlines this week should be: Democrats go 0-4 in special elections. voters reject socialism", he added in a follow-up tweet.

More than $30 million was spent on Ossoff who lost to Republican Karen Handel by 10,000 votes, 51.9 percent to 48.1 percent.

The unpopularity of Trump and the Republican healthcare law - along with the historic trend that the party holding the White House loses seats in midterm elections - gives Democrats hope for capturing the House in 2018. Even in Georgia's Sixth (which has seen dramatic redrawings), Ossoff's showing was by far the best by a Democratic congressional candidate since before Newt Gingrich won the seat in 1978.
