Spicer hasn't talked Russian Federation meddling with Trump

Spicer now has multiple positions within the White House communications team and its unclear if the role of press secretary is the one he will keep once the staff re-expands. The FBI was investigating Russia's meddling in the 2016 presidential election and possible contacts with Trump campaign associates.

President Donald Trump reacting to poor reviews of Spicer's performance at the job tweeted about doing away with the briefings all together earlier this year. One suspects that the blackout of press briefings has nothing to do with Spicer, and everything to do with the fact that this White House has no answers on the Russian Federation scandal and is trying to suppress information from getting out to the American people.

"That's the White House behind me...." While his threats to "open up our libel laws" to make it easier to sue media outlets have not come to fruition, the now-US leader has discussed eliminating press briefings completely, in favour of written briefings.

Politico reports that Spicer is reaching out to prospective candidates to take over his position as part a plan to shake up the White House communications operation.

Joining the Twitter wars, the White House correspondent for Breitbart News, Charlie Spiering, pointed out that the comment was a joke.

The former first daughter retweeted an Atlantic article about the waning press briefings in the White House, which included Bannon's alleged explanation, via text message, to a reporter: "Sean got fatter".

Through the end of April, Spicer's briefings averaged 48 minutes, according to an NBC analysis.

Spicer's public role has already diminished in recent weeks. "I have not sat down and asked him about his specific reaction", Spicer said, echoing his response to similar questions at previous briefings.

"And I guess people can say, well, there goes the media again".

Pierson said that whoever serves in the press secretary role should have one trait above all others: "Firmly believe in the president and his goals".

Spicer also defended the decision to hold off-camera, non-recorded briefings, as he did yesterday.

Smiling, he replied, "I'm right here".
