Murray in a hurry after straight-set victory

The world number one has struggled with his fitness for much of the year, and although he is keeping his expectations low, he is happy with the way his game is improving as the tournament progresses.

Following four-set victories over Andrey Kuznetsov and Martin Klizan, the Scot took down Juan Martin Del Potro 7-6 (8), 7-5, 6-0 during third-round action on Saturday afternoon.

In what was deemed to be a blockbuster of a match, Great Britain's Andy Murray has stormed home to beat Argentina's Juan Martin Del Potro in straight sets at the Roland Garros.

A remarkable effort saw Del Potro break back for 5-5, before he dropped serve and allowed his opponent to control proceedings and take the set 7-5 with his fourth ace of the day. On the other hand, the Argentine was in all kind of problems every time he would have missed the first serve, and he had to play against 17 break points.

"I couldn't believe that set, that I lost that set, because I had many opportunities to win", del Potro said.

Then, on Murray's third set point of his own, del Potro made another mistake, pushing one of his intimidating, grunt-accompanied forehands wide.

The 28-year-old slumped over the net and stayed that way during most of the changeover to catch his breath.

He was referring to the way Murray constantly kept him on the move and worked out a way to neutralise what is arguably the biggest forehand in the game.

World No. 1 Any Murray looked like world No. 1 Andy Murray on Saturday, winning a tight two sets before rolling to victory over No. 29-seeded former Slam victor Juan Martin del Potro 7-6 (8), 7-5, 6-0 at the French Open.

Aluminum composite panels essentially consist of two thin layers of aluminum sandwiched around a lightweight insulating material. There have been demands for answers as to how the blaze was able to engulf the building, trapping many on the upper floors.

"Andy proved he is a real No. 1", said Del Potro.

Meanwhile, former champion Stan Wawrinka is through to the fourth round with a 7-6 (2) 6-0 6-2 win against Italian Fabio Fognini.

Seventh seed Marin Cilic established himself as a contender for the French Open title after sweeping past Feliciano Lopez 6-1 6-3 6-3 to reach the last 16 without having dropped a set on Saturday.

Anderson served 24 aces in just shy of four hours as he came from two-sets-to-one down to win 6-7 (8-6) 7-6 (7-4) 5-7 6-1 6-4.

Anderson twice recovered from a set down to advance 6-7 (6/8), 7-6 (7/4), 5-7, 6-1, 6-4 in just under 4 hours in a duel between two players born in Johannesburg. The next came at 5-4, but he netted a backhand, then double-faulted to grant a break point that Murray claimed with a forehand victor. Cornet and Garcia will meet for a quarterfinal berth guaranteed to go to someone from the host country.

Elena Vesnina was dumped out of the women's singles after she lost in straight sets to Carla Suarez Navarro 6-4, 6-4, and French favourite Alize Cornet beat Agnieszka Radwanska out of the competition with a 6-2, 6-1 hammering.

France's Caroline Garcia celebrates winning her third round match against Taiwan's Su-Wei Hsieh in three sets 6-4, 4-6, 9-7, at the French Open tennis tournament at the Roland Garros stadium, in Paris, France.

Those wins guaranteed the home nation will have at least one quarter-finalist in Paris for the first time since Marion Bartoli in 2011.
