London fire: Death toll rises to 58

London Police said an investigation had been launched to determine whether the blaze involved any crimes and Prime Minister Theresa May announced a public inquiry, a type of probe that's used to investigate issues of major public concern.

"We can only recover bodies when it is safe to do so and that will take some time in the days and weeks to come".

Mr Javid was pressed on what would happen to other buildings with the same cladding as Grenfell Tower.

Since Wednesday, six victims of the fire have been provisionally identified though Cundy warned there was a "risk that sadly we may not be able to identify everybody".

The latest figures from NHS England show that 24 people are still being treated in hospitals across London, of whom 12 remain in critical care.

Labour Tottenham MP David Lammy said that those responsible for the Grenfell Tower's fire safety failings should be arrested for "corporate manslaughter".

They met volunteers, local residents and community representatives while visiting Westway Sports Centre in west London, near the burnt down 24-storey Grenfell Tower.

"Something's gone wrong here, something's gone drastically wrong", Communities and Local Government Minister Sajid Javid told BBC radio.

The death toll from Wednesday's fire has risen to 30 confirmed fatalities.

"We are not here to trouble people".

May made a private visit to the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital which is treating eight survivors on Friday afternoon, after being heavily criticized for attending the site but not meeting the Tower block's residents.

Ireland's new housing minister demanded that local authorities conduct fire safety checks on every tower block in Ireland "as a matter of urgency", the Times reported.

Stranger Things season 2 may 'disappoint' fans
So people who found season one too scary for them, probably you're going to be more scared by season two. "I was just in the edit room with the brothers yesterday, and we were like, 'This is definitely darker.

Locals yelled questions at mayor Sadiq Khan when he walked through the neighborhood on Friday. "What are you going to do about it?"

One of the first victims was named as 23-year-old Syrian refugee Mohammed Alhajali, with the Syria Solidarity Campaign director Kareen El Beyrouty launching a campaign towards funeral costs.

The appeal said: "Mohammed Alhajali undertook a risky journey to flee war in Syria, only to meet death here in the United Kingdom, in his own home".

The crowds chanted "May must go" as they converged outside the security gates at the entrance of Downing Street.

The 1974 building recently had external aluminum cladding installed, which is highly flammable.

There has been growing fury at the low-rent estate where residents wanted answers on why the fire was able to spread so rapidly and why complaints about safety had been ignored.

A man looks at a message wall near the scene of the fire which destroyed the Grenfell Tower block, in north Kensington, west London, Britain June 14, 2017.

The Times reported that the type of cladding used on the building was banned in USA buildings taller than 40 feet (12.2 metres) because of fire safety fears.

The Times claim that rough calculations suggest that contractors could have used the fire-resistant version for less that £5,000 extra.

Two nearby Underground subway lines were partially shut down Saturday in the fire area to make sure that debris from the tower did not land on the tracks.

But the tower reportedly had no central sprinkler system or fireproof doors and was built with materials that are often flammable - all of which could have led to the fire spreading more quickly.
