Special counsel investigating Trump for obstruction of justice

The investigation into ties between President Trump's campaign and the Russian government has now turned to investigating Trump himself for obstruction of justice, the Washington Post reported Wednesday.

Horwitz is one of the journalists who worked on the Washington Post report headlined "Special Counsel Is Investigating Trump For Possible Obstruction of Justice, Officials Say".

Investigators are also searching "for any evidence of possible financial crimes among Trump associates", according to unnamed officials cited in the report. They include Dan Coats, the director of national intelligence, Mike Rogers, director of the National Security Agency, and his former deputy director, Richard Ledget, the Post reported.

This is a major change, as former FBI director James Comey confirmed in recent testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee, that he had, as Trump claimed, three times told POTUS he was not personally under investigation in the bureau's probe of Russian interference in the election and possible Trump campaign collusion.

Sen. Lankford Talks Comey's Testimony As Trump Fires Back
Opposition Democrats have said that the leaks occurred after Comey was sacked and no longer a government official. A former prosecutor, Mueller stepped into the role as President George W.

Mark Corallo, a spokesperson for Trump's personal lawyer Marc Kasowitz, did not deny the report. He declined further comment.

Mueller is investigating alleged Russian interference in the 2016 USA presidential election and possible collusion with the Trump campaign. He instead told the Washington Post: "The FBI leak of information regarding the President is outrageous, inexcusable and illegal".

Several legal experts told Reuters that Comey's testimony last week that Trump expected loyalty and told Comey he hoped he could drop an investigation of a former top aide could bolster obstruction of justice allegations against Trump.

I took it as a very disturbing thing, very concerning, but that's a conclusion I'm sure the special counsel will work towards, to try and understand what the intention was there, and whether that's an offense.
