Comey firing to be investigated by Senate panel, new report says

Attorney General Jeff Sessions told a Senate committee Tuesday that any suggestion he colluded with Russian Federation during last year's USA presidential campaign was an "appalling and detestable lie".

Even before Sessions testified, attention in Washington swiveled to whether Trump might seek to fire Robert Mueller, named last month by the Justice Department to head a federal probe into the Russian Federation issue.

Sessions previously admitted to two meetings with the Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak, which he failed to reveal during his confirmation hearing, but recent unsubstantiated reports suggest he may be concealing a third encounter.

Immediately after his testimony, Sessions was widely criticised for leaving many key questions unanswered with statements such as "I don't recall" and "I have no recollection".

The Attorney General's testimony comes one week after the Senate Intelligence Committee testimony of former FBI Director James Comey, who was sacked early on last month.

Responding to questions about the firing of Mr Comey, Mr Sessions said he never informed the Federal Bureau of Investigation chief of concerns about his job performance, which the administration cited in his dismissal.

There's no evidence Jeff Sessions, the attorney general and former Alabama senator, colluded with Russian officials to sway the election toward Donald Trump.

"I received only the limited information that the department's career officials determined was necessary to inform my recusal decision", Sessions said.

Sen. Franken has been persistent on one of the key pieces of the Russian Federation investigation.

Any suggestion to the contrary, he said, was "an appalling and detestable lie" and "secret innuendo".

Three-point jump shots, points in the paint, and a tight defense gave them the lead going into the fourth quarter . Asked about his rival LeBron James , Durant said nothing but praises for the Cleveland Cavaliers star forward.

He says he is confident that Comey understood and would abide by the Justice Departments rules on communications with the White House about ongoing investigations.

The House Intelligence Committee and its Senate counterpart are investigating the Russian meddling in the 2016 election, and former FBI Director Robert Mueller has been appointed as a special counsel to review possible violations of the law.

At the same time, Sessions said the USA doesn't have a sufficient strategy to deal with cyberattacks.

Mr Trump has recently expressed frustration with Mr Sessions, who has come under pressure over his own Russian Federation contacts.

The second prong was to avoid saying anything about his dealings with President Trump. "I have confidence in Mr. Mueller", he said. Sessions cited the policy of the Justice Department, but also said that he did not want to limit Trump's ability to invoke executive privilege.

"We are talking about an attack on our democratic institutions and stonewalling of any kind is unacceptable ... there is no legal basis for this stonewalling", Oregon Senator Ron Wyden said. "At this point, I believe it's premature for me to deny the president a full and intelligent choice about executive privilege".

Harris followed up, "Sir, I am not asking about you the principle". Comey's decision to announce a year ago that Clinton would not be prosecuted over her emails was a "usurpation" of the Justice Department's authority, Sessions said. "I know nothing but what I've read in the paper".

U.S. Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) accused Sessions of obstructing their congressional investigation.

On another hot-button issue, Sen. Sessions added his own letter to that effect, and both documents were sent to Trump, who then fired Comey later on the same day, May 9.

Would any such tapes have to be preserved?
