ICC CT 2017: New Zealand vs Bangladesh Preview

A record ODI partnership from middle-order batsmen Shakib Al-Hasan and Mahmudullah kept Bangladesh's hopes of qualifying for the group stage alive, in turn sending New Zealand packing from the Champions Trophy.

But their fifth-wicket partnership of 224 - Bangladesh's highest-ever one-day worldwide stand, surpassing the 178 shared by Tamim amd Mushfiqur Rahim against Pakistan at Dhaka in 2015, turned the match on its head.

Bangladesh gave themselves a chance of making the last four of the competition with an extraordinary five-wicket win over New Zealand in Cardiff.

"Obviously I would like to go to the semis and if we do we will hopefully play better cricket than in the last three matches". Both got fifties; Williamson's was his third score over fifty in three games in the tournament.

The 42-year-old also stressed the importance of the performance of the host nation and said: "It's very important for any tournament that the host nation does well, and it is great against that backdrop that England has been playing such great cricket".

While the Kiwis were a tad unfortunate against Australia given that they were in a stronger position when the match was called off, Bangladesh were lucky to run away with a point against the Aussies.

Iran has sent five planes of food to Qatar
The four Arab states upped their pressure on Qatar on Friday by listing 12 organizations and 59 people on a terror sanctions list. Qatar denies it has backed extremist groups and says the allegations are based on fabricated news and politically motivated.

Their 224-run fifth-wicket stand handed the Tigers' a remarkable 5-wicket win in their last Group A tie on Friday.

Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah slammed centuries to help Bangladesh to a famous win. Mushfiqur Rahim tried to rebuild the innings but got out cheaply leaving the team in danger. The fourth wicket partnership between Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor added 83 runs before Kane Williamson got out and the score of the team by then was 152 in 30 overs. He managed to claim the opening three wickets of Bangladesh in the first five overs of the game, in the form of opener Tamim (0), Soumya Sarkar (3) and Sabbir Rahman (8). But we gained confidence when we beat them (New Zealand) in Ireland in the tri-series.

"That will be nice (if England win), but we can't just expect Australia to lose that game", Mortaza told reporters.

Taskin Ahmed made his first appearance for the side this tournament and the young quick got things going after his pace surprised Luke Ronchi and dismissed him after being caught at mid on.

But if Saturday's match, as has happened twice to Australia already this tournament, ends in a no result washout it will be Bangladesh who go into the semi-finals. Shakib and Mahmudullah shared the first 200-run stand for Bangladesh in ODI history.

Williamson, who made 100 and 87 against England and Australia respectively, needlessly ran himself out when he set off for a non-existent single after Taylor turned Shakib behind square to Mosaddek.
