Donald Trump: Happy to Speak 'Under Oath' to Refute James Comey

"That is a very big deal".

Earlier in the day on Twitter, the president claimed "total and complete vindication" in the wake of Comey's testimony. "I'll tell you about that maybe sometime in the near future", Trump said.

There had been speculation that President Trump would offer his commentary on Comey's testimony in real time on Twitter, but he waited until early Friday morning to weigh in. The issue of the Trump election campaign's relationship with Russian Federation has dogged Trump's first months in office and distracted from his policy goals such as overhauling the US healthcare system and making tax cuts.

Comey said that he declined to do so in large part because of the "duty to correct" that would be created if that situation changed. You suggested he didn't tell the truth in everything he said.

Trump added that he "would be glad" to tell Robert Mueller, the special counsel who is overseeing the FBI's investigation into Russia's election meddling and whether Trump's campaign played a role, "exactly what I just told you", but under oath. "We were very, very happy, and, frankly, James Comey confirmed a lot of what I said, and some of the things that he said just weren't true", he said. My judgment was, I need to get that out into the public square.

They also disputed Comey's assertion that Trump asked the Federal Bureau of Investigation director for a pledge of personal loyalty to the president.

Trump's private attorney, Marc Kasowitz, seized on Comey's admission that he had told Trump on multiple occasions that he was not personally under investigation and maintained the testimony made clear that Trump "never, in form or substance, directed or suggested that Mr. Comey stop investigating anyone".

Comey said Trump pressured him to drop an investigation of former national security adviser Michael Flynn and told Comey that he needed his loyalty, even though FBI directors are supposed to work independently from the White House.

Trump branded Comey a "leaker" for indirectly providing to reporters the contents of memos he wrote after their private conversations. The president has not yet publicly denied the specifics of Comey's accounts but has broadly challenged his credibility, tweeting last month Comey "better hope there are no "tapes" of the conversations.

While the BKS agreed to call off the protests, the farmers were not ready to end their campaign without their demands being met. He added that in a parliamentary form of Government, party and its philosophy matters more than anything.

The information was leaked to a reporter of "The New York Times" through a professor from the Columbia Law School.

As a former prosecutor, Malcolm said he would not take legal action against Trump based on what he heard from Comey's Senate testimony. But on March 2, Prior said, Sessions' chief of staff Jody Hunt sent an email informing Comey and other department officials about the recusal and its scope.

"I took it as a direction". For all the drama of past similar televised testimony, like that of the individuals called during Sen.

House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi says she has concerns about President Donald Trump's "fitness for office" - and thinks he needs more sleep.

After the hearing, Mr. Trump's personal attorney issued a statement to try to rebut this claim. "I found him to be credible, candid and thorough", Collins said of Comey on MSNBC's "Morning Joe".

Republican Representative Peter King of NY told VOA that, overall, Trump emerged relatively unscathed from the Comey hearing. Any recourse against Trump would have to be addressed on Capitol Hill, with the House and Senate as judge and jury.

"It's a great question", Comey replied. "The Russians interfered", Comey stated firmly.

During much of the increasingly heated debate surrounding the FBI's investigation of Russia's role in the election, Trump has chafed over news leaks, arguing that news organizations had not given them proper attention.
