Delhi: Gangster Chhota Shakeel's wingman Junaid Chowdhry nabbed by special cell

Chhota Shakeel's aide arrested in Delhi was planning to target Tarek Fateh

A Delhi court today sent an alleged aide of gangster Chhota Shakeel, who was reportedly planning to target Pakistan-born Canadian writer Tarek Fatah, to three days police custody. A pistol and four live cartridges were seized from him. Uttar Pradesh ATS Senior Superintendent of Police Umesh Kumar Srivastava had been quoted by PTI as saying back then that Fatah was targeted because "he is seen as opposing the Shariat law and advocates liberal and progressive form of Islam".

According to the Delhi police Junaid had even carried out a reconnaissance of Fatah's house. At the time, the gang was planning to eliminate Hindu Sabha chief Swami Chakrapani, said t.

Special cell sleuths arrested Junaid early on Thursday from Wazirabad Road in north-east Delhi.

He was earlier arrested a year ago in June along with three others with arms and hawala money sent by Shakeel.

"These goons do not scare me".

However, his aides who were arrested that time have gone their separate ways, police said.

Junaid was granted bail four months later. During interrogation, he is learnt to have told police that Chhota Shakeel had promised him more money once the job was done. However, later his bail was cancelled and he again went back to the prison. Further, as per the new plan introduced by Shakeel, the information was exchanged using a chain method and not by directly talking to each other. The Indian Express was the first to report their arrests.

Chakrapani had said that he would use the remains to build a toilet.
